Every other 6-week session, North Shore Dog Training Club offers the S.T.A.R. puppy class, for puppies up to a year old. Hope Saidel is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Approved Evaluator and the instructor for the class. The S.T.A.R. puppy program will get your pup off to a great start. Both you and your puppy will learn valuable lessons that you’ll use throughout his life.
At the end of the session, Hope will administer the S.T.A.R. Puppy test. Every puppy that passes the test will receive an application to send to the AKC for enrollment in the S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. Your puppy will receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal (for display or memento purposes; not suitable as a collar tag). You and your puppy will be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records. In addition, so that you can continue learning, you’ll receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy package that includes:
The S.T.A.R. Puppy class focuses on behaviors that will get your puppy ready to be a Canine Good Citizen. When your puppy successfully passes the course, he’ll be nice to other people and dogs, he’ll tolerate his collar or harness well, he’ll walk nicely on a leash, he’ll know how to sit and down on command and he’ll come to you when you call him. And you will be able to hug your puppy or pick him up (depending on the size of the pup, of course), you’ll be able to brush him and handle his feet. You’ll even be able to hand your puppy’s leash to a friendly person and walk a short distance away from him. You’ll be able to walk your puppy past other people and distractions without your puppy wanting to visit. You’ll even be able to take away a toy or treat from your puppy. You’ll learn about the kind of activities you and your puppy should do every day to maintain his good health.
